What We Offer:

Inspiration & Experience through

  1. Artist Workshops — The Server & Project team has experience teaching in both university settings and community arts organizations. Serve and Project is interested in creating workshops that range in length from one day to one week. Lisa and Io will work with any given organization to design a learning experience that meets the artistic and educational goals of the organization. The theme of the workshops emerge out of community dialogue and conversation simulated by the making, production and consumption of food. Both artists have a combined experience in a range of media — ceramics, installation, painting, bookmaking, digital audio and video, web design — and can customize the format of the workshop projects for each organization. For example, young people may conduct interviews with older individuals in their community about how a particular recipe has been passed down within a family. The information collected through these interviews may be in the form of photographs and audio recordings and may be made into recipe files via digital videos or web blogs. The cultural significance of food within culture then becomes subverted and disseminated via new media technology. The resulting public exhibition at the end of the workshop promotes civic engagement, cultural understanding and positive social change.

The Serve and Project team has a special interested in reaching out to and empowering intergenerational participants in workshops. For example residents of assisted living facilities and nursing homes may collaborate with students at colleges and universities.
  2. Public Art Exhibitions — Public exhibitions can exist in traditional gallery settings or alternative spaces such as public eating envoronments. Exhibitions can include the visual art work of Lisa Link and Io Palmer, both exhibiting artists, or a culmination of participants work produced during a Serve and Project workshop.
  3. Public Lectures — Io and Lisa have both lectured at colleges, universities and arts centers throughout the United States. Both artists can also set up blogs in advance of or following a public lecture to encourage dialogue on topics presented.
