Welcome to the Recipe Section

The desire to work collaboratively goes back to 1995 when we were both instructors at the Manchester Craftsmen's Guild in Pittsburgh, PA. Lisa was the computer area maven and Io was the muddy gal working in the ceramics department. Our first collaboration was a very thin ceramic hat that we then put photo images onto. We now live on opposite sides of the country and thanks to the wonders of technology, we have been able to create Serve and Project.

After a year of building the website, we offered our first "dish" of Serve and Project in the form of a call for recipes. We got numerous responses from all over the country. Both traditional dishes like Deviled Eggs and non-traditional submissions like Recipe for a Banquet and Korean Fried Grubs were submitted. What lies behind each recipe is the rich, varied intriguing stories of peoples' lives and histories. The mission of Serve and Project is to be a platform for people to dialogue about social and political issues through the making, production and consumption of food. In many ways, the actual recipes are secondary … what remains strong are the stories and ideas people bring to this virtual table.
